Detachments are units within the 501st Legion, which serve as a resource to find a wealth of informatoin regarding particular costumes that are accepted for membership within the Legion. Some costumes are lumped into a particular Detachment because they are similar in nature, while others specialize in only one costume type. If you are looking for help on how to build a costume, or want to know more about a particular costume, these are the places to go. Here you will find all of the informatoin you are looking for in regards to information about costumes such as Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, Tusken Raiders, Sith Lords like Darth Vader, and much much more.
Here is a complete list of all of the Detachments within the 501st Legion:

All information submitted will be kept confidential and will be used only for 501st Legion registration purposes, except information you designate as "public" which will be posted on your member profile page. Click here to see the Legion Founder Albin Johnson's record for an example of private versus public information.
This application is the same application that appears on the 501st Legion Homepage . We provide this application to better service you. Our Garrison Membership Liaison will work very closely with you to ensure a speedy enlistment.
Note: Newly approved applicants will have their name, Legion ID number and enlistment date displayed on the 501st.com Homepage under "Newest Recruits" for a limited amount of time.
You will need to select a Legion ID number (a 4 digit number which is not already in use). The 2-letter prefix will vary depending on your costume. For example, TK-#### would be a Stormtrooper and TB-#### would be a Biker Scout.
Check the 501st Legion database or the full roster listing of current IDs, in use within the 501st Legion, for available numbers before selecting your top 5 choices.
For further information regarding our club costume prefix designations, please consult the Costume Reference Library.
Upon submission of your application, the Garrison Membership Liaison will contact you to verify your qualifications and will most likely ask for pictures of you in your costume for validation, if you haven't already provided them.
DIRECTIONS FOR TAKING QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHS:
1. Take two photographs of you in your costume. Why two? We need a picture of you with your mask/helmet ON and one with your mask/helmet OFF. If your costume is portraying a "face" character and you do not wear a mask or helmet, please only provide a picture of you in your costume.
2. Photographs should be take of you - ALONE - against a PLAIN BACKGROUND, making sure to stand several feet away from the background so as to avoid harsh shadows. This could be a plain white wall or a green-screened wall. The key is to take your photographs against a wall that is in stark contrast to the overall color of your costume. NOTE: Do not submit photos of you at a convention or outside in broad daylight and NO CELL PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY!
3. Lighting. Lighting is key and although we don't expect professional photographs, it is important to provide adequate lighting to ensure a quality photograph is taken. Photographs should not be taken outside in broad daylight, however, it is okay to take photographs outside on an overcast day. Also, if you choose to shoot your photographs against a green screen, please be sure the lighting is adequate enough to reduce green overspill on your costume. Green overspill can also be reduced by standing several feet away from the green screen backdrop.
So what will these photographs be used for?
These photographs will serve several functions. First and foremost, they will be used by the Garrison Membership Liaison to verify the quality of your costume and ensure that the costume is up to the standards required for membership into the 501st Legion. Furthermore, these photographs will be used for display on the 501st.com Membership Roster, as well as on the Dune Sea Garrison Member Directory. This, in particular, is why we request that you adhere to the directions listed above when taking photographs. By doing so you not only make our lives easier when cropping you out of your pictures (thanks for your cooperation in advance!), but it also ensures that our member galleries show off how great your costume is!
Awesome! How do I submit my photographs?
This part is about is easy as one could hope for ... All you need to do is email your pictures to our Official Membership Photobucket Account! First, a bit about naming conventions for file names ...
Please name your photos as follows:

"Helmet On" photo name example: JohnDoe_Stormtrooper_helmet.jpg
Simply replace "JohnDoe" with YOUR FIRST and LAST NAME, as well as replacing "Stormtrooper" with THE NAME OF YOUR COSTUME TYPE.
Once you have your photos taken and named accordingly, email them to: DuneSeaGarrison_Members.91467@uploads.photobucket.com.
After reviewing your Membership Application and costume photographs, our Garrison Membership Liaison will contact you providing either a confirmation of your membership or possibly a denial of membership should you not meet membership requirements. If you DO meet membership requirements and your application is approved, you will receive confirmation via e-mail. At this time you will receive your Legion ID, your member record will be marked as "ACTIVE" in the 501st Legion member database, and your profile will eventually appear on both the 501st Legion website, as well as the Dune Sea Garrison website.
If you are not validated for membership, our Garrison Membership Liaison will work with you and provide recommendations and resources that can assist you in improving your costume to meet 501st Legion membership requirements.
